I keep a list of links to demonstration sites that I have created. These may help to show you my style of building and how I like to keep design clear and usable.
I use another web site to host projects that need a home. downtheshed.co.uk is where I create sub domains to showcase test builds and demo sites. A case of actions speaking much louder than my words. You can view these or any web site that you have seen to help communicate the site that you require.
I have a few simple stages that help me to understand what exactly a customer would need for a simple and painless web site. I say simple and painless because the most effective way to communicate information quickly is to keep it simple, people will only take in a small amount per viewing.
White Van - The first stage would be to decide what you would like your site to achieve mechanically speaking. I like to think of it as a plain white van being bought for it's ability to carry the necessary amount of page content for a business and then later spraying it and sign writing it to the businesses visual identity.
Load the Van - Once we know it is big enough, we can decide on the delivery route. The ideas and information that need to be understood quickly should be placed near the doors for easy access. Larger concepts and the bigger lumps of data can be further inside the van, secured for transit or spread out to balance the handling characteristics of your van.
Sign Writing - Everything is in its place, now I can style and fit the visuals without compromising what you are trying to say. Customers usually find it practical if I can compliment current business identities, perhaps expanding a theme from your headed paper or company logo.
There are many ways of coming to an understanding, the important thing is to keep this process simple and clear, this will be the most effective way of reducing web design costs. I also like to think that by staying with local people around Winford and the Chew Valley, we'll all save money in travel and communication.
